Greenview: Catalyzing Sustainability for the Hospitality Industry

Greenview’s offerings comprise an online sustainability platform and a benchmarking solution. The Greenview Portal, its online platform aids hotels in the utilization of data to determine the overall performance of the property, and offers vital insights on the areas of opportunity. In addition, with Greenview’s benchmarking solution, hotels can compare their sustainability with reference standards that are developed using the latest datasets from over 12,000 hotels around the world.
“Hospitality is a people business. And we know that in sustainability, people are motivated most by helping other people. That’s why our Greenview Portal has a heavy emphasis on community impact and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, so that hotels can see positive impact alongside performance metrics like its carbon footprint. And by benchmarking on qualitative best practices as well as metrics, we have tapped into the purest essence of benchmarking and quantified it by showing hotels where they stand among their peers to stimulate improvement,” explains Ricaurte.
The Greenview Portal is designed to be handled by anyone—technical and non-technical staff. The portal can be implemented within minutes by signing up on the website and sharing access to data. Furthermore, in the case of hotels that store their data offline, Greenview assists them in transferring the data to the cloud before deploying its services for hotels to use on a regular basis.
Highlighting the ease of implementation of Greenview’s offerings is their collaboration with National Geographic’s hotel affiliation program—Unique Lodges of the World. To become a part of this program, lodges have to collect data and send annual impact metrics, demonstrating their work in improving the environment, community, cultural diversity, and biodiversity of their area. The challenge arose when certain hotels did not have the means to track and send the required sustainability data. Consequently, National Geographic partnered with Greenview and endorsed the Greenview Portal for their program so that lodges could submit the information with ease, while benefitting from the tools made specifically for property staff. With their National Geographic partnership, Greenview was able to deploy their software solution around the world— in a diverse range of locations—and provide consistent and agile services for a varied range of portfolios.
Greenview’s vision is to improve their software with the evolving concept of sustainability in the hospitality industry, capturing and catalyzing new best practices and innovations as they emerge. In the future, Greenview plans to become the go-to solution for the fast-growing hotel industry in Southeast Asia by providing them with the sophistication that every emerging hotel company needs to address sustainability at a corporate level. The company also sees potential in collaborating with local hotel associations in Asia to provide their services to smaller and independent hotels. “We are going to roll out all of our expertise into the portal and improve the benchmarking and output to become the tool of choice for the entire hospitality industry,” concludes Ricaurte.
